The correct use of laboratory Fume hood can protect the safety of operators

Safety is the Great Commission of Fume hood. The use of Fume hood in laboratory is to ensure the safety of users and prevent pollution to the surrounding environment.
Design features of Fume hood:
1. Adopting a single seam exhaust structure, effectively discharging harmful gases.
2. A streamlined handle with a gap between the handle and the glass ensures effective air intake from the surface due to the rotational flow of air on the countertop.
3. Set up a window anti fall device, in case the steel wire rope or chain breaks and the glass window accidentally falls, with an anti fall device, it can effectively prevent injury to personnel.
4. The glass window adopts safety tempered laminated glass, even if the glass is accidentally damaged or exploded, there will be no injuries.
5. The upper part of the Fume hood is provided with a vent hole, so that air can enter even if the glass window is closed to avoid greater negative pressure.
6. The shell of Fume hood shall be made of metal materials as far as possible to prevent fire. The inner cavity is made of flame-retardant or non combustible materials such as fiberglass board and stainless steel board, while the countertop is made of ceramic board, epoxy resin board or stainless steel board, which is acid alkali resistant, heat resistant, and flame retardant.
7. The effective height of the glass window is 800mm, the inner cavity is 1200mm, and the height of the countertop is 800mm, which is ergonomic, easy to operate, has a large usage space, and improves safety.
8. The water nozzle and air nozzle are equipped with remote operating handles outside the cabinet, which is more convenient and safe than direct manual operation.
Safety must also be paid attention to when using Fume hood:
◆ Before the experiment, it must be confirmed that the Fume hood should be in operation state before the experiment can be carried out.
Before the end of the experiment, it is necessary to continue running for at least 5 minutes before turning off the fan to remove residual gas from the pipeline. Delayed shutdown can also be set to ensure delayed operation of the ventilation fan.
During the experiment, it is recommended not to place equipment within 150mm of the glass window. Large experimental equipment should have sufficient space and should not affect the flow of air. The window should be closed for use as much as possible.
Selection of Fume hood:
During the laboratory construction, the type, material and specification of Fume hood shall be selected according to the experimental content when determining the installation position of Fume hood.
Usually, the following should be considered:
◆ Medicines used: When using organic compounds or other special reagents for experiments, full consideration should be given to controlling wind speed.
◆ Heat source: When using equipment with a heat source, when the heat exceeds 2000 kcal/hour, the ventilation amount required to discharge the heat should be considered to determine the power of the ventilation fan.
◆ When there are radioactive substances or perchloric acid and other experiments: special Fume hood shall be selected, and its inlet air speed must be set to be greater than 0.5m/s.
When using large equipment for experiments: it is necessary to consider the effective internal size and leave necessary space for ventilation.
◆ Material: When using special acids for experiments, consider the material of Fume hood, such as semiconductor industry, corrosion industry, etc., which must be made of anti-corrosion materials.
◆ External dimensions: Select the external dimensions based on the experimental content. If the volume is too large, it will cause waste and if it is too small, it will affect its use.
◆ Environmental protection: If the harmful gases emitted must be ensured to be below the national environmental requirements and exceed the national hygiene standards, corresponding purification devices should be installed.
◆ Energy saving: Try to consider energy saving. In rooms with heating or air conditioning, make up air Fume hood or choose Fume hood with air volume control. When selecting a ventilation fan, its power should also be determined according to needs. It is not advisable to blindly increase the exhaust air volume and pressure. Instead, frequency converters or variable speed fans can be used to reduce power consumption.
The installation position of the Fume hood should avoid facing the road and the site where people pass frequently, blocking the windows and places with unfavorable ventilation and lighting, blocking the places where the entrance and exit affect the opening and closing of the door, and avoiding opposite positions.
